Harmony Within By means of Meditation Courses London

Meditation courses London are extremely advantageous when it comes to calming a person's body, mind and soul. It really is among the best methods on journeying towards getting the correct understanding to be able to learn how to deal with the everyday stresses of life. Luckily, as a human being, we have the ability to be able to solve problems that come our way as we are the superior creations of our creators. But in this modern time, stress is one of the things that many people are trying to overcome and at times, it will take a toll on us-physically, psychologically and spiritually. Good thing we have meditation that is among the best tools to use to be able to solve challenges such as this. In meditation courses London, we are able to get hold of different techniques that will aid us in not only conquering stress but also be able to find that harmony within us and re-establish the connection of our body and soul.

One approach that is being taught in meditation courses London is contemplation. Contemplation offers a way for individuals to be able to put the mind at rest and keep still. This is usually a way of letting go of everything which causes us to feel stressed, tensed and permits us to give full attention to more important and positive things.

Whenever you sign up under a meditation course, you will gain new information involving areas of the underlying mindset of meditation, its fundamental metaphysics, the fundamental philosophy of life, various transformative effects of meditation courses, what the essential role of preparatory relaxation and exercise is, the improvement of meditation courses, obstacles that an individual should defeat, combination of deep study of key meditative custom and the various internal conditions with the progress of the meditation courses.

It is with these meditation courses London where a person takes time to be able to reconcile with their inner self. In the modern world that we're in, most people are very vain and being a show-off is not something outrageous. The shallow competition of wordly possession causes numerous people to be who they are not and require for more success and ask for more than what they need. All these only brings about insecurity and may mislead one's identity. However with the help of meditation, a person gets the chance to reconnect with their inner self and reveal precisely what their heart really desires and be able to see past the material things that many people are so drowned of these days.

Additionally, meditation courses London are exactly what a person needs in order to develop his or her health. These courses are what will help an individual learn about stress management, relationship management and health management. Meditation can also help you improve yourself by having an ethical lifestyle and develop a positive prospect or perspective of things and in life in general. From here, we are able to observe how meditation isn't just meant to improve the spiritual aspect or help fight stress but it goes further by enhancing the total well being.

Tao Porchon-Lynch Celebrates 95th Birthday

August 14, 2013

Tao Porchon-Lynch, the yoga teacher who made headlines last year when she was recognized by Guinness Book of World Record as the “Oldest Living Yoga Teacher,” celebrated her 95th birthday yesterday.

Porchon-Lynch, who is a competitive ballroom dancer in her spare time, has had a busy year with a full teaching schedule and a new yoga DVD, Yoga with Tao Porchon-Lynch, which she released in collaboration with Tara Stiles.

Porchon-Lynch shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.  “I don’t get tired,” she told Buzz. “I search within myself for the power of creation, and inner energy radiates the eternal life force,”

A former model and actress, Porchon-Lynch began teaching yoga full-time at the age of 73, though her first experience with yoga was as a child growing up in Pondicherry (a French colony on India on the Bay of Bengal). She now teaches yoga in New York and holds workshops across the country.

While she considers herself a student of Douglas Swenson, David Swenson, and James Miller, she says her students are her biggest inspiration.

Her advice to those who hope to keep up their yoga practice into their 90s?: “There is no such thing as ‘age.’ Tune into the power of the eternal, and feel the beauty of life. Nothing is impossible. Yoga revitalizes us with every breath we take.”

For more inspiration, check out more amazing photographs of Porchon-Lynch here.

Happy Birthday, Tao!

Yoga for Eating Disorders

63608_1831837885105_1125315735_nWhen yoga teacher Chelsea Roff was 15 years old she had a stroke caused by severe anorexia. At the time, she weighed only 58 pounds. She got the treatment she needed to survive through the medical system, but she credits yoga with helping her thrive. Now, she wants to pay it forward  by helping others who are suffering with eating disorders through a program she spent the last six years developing, called Yoga for Eating Disorders.

With the help of nonprofit organization Give Back Yoga Foundation, Roff recently launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $50,000 so that she can offer her 3-day program to eating disorder centers around the country at no cost.

“My experience, as someone in recovery, is that yoga can be a game-changer in eating disorder treatment because it equips patients with skills that pharmaceuticals, talk therapy, and other traditional forms of treatment simply do not provide,” Roff said. “As a complementary treatment, I think it may prevent relapse, shorten treatment time, and teach skills for long term recovery.”

The program is necessary, Roff says, because attending a regular group  yoga class might not be helpful for someone with an eating disorder, especially those who have compulsively over-exercised in the past. “We discuss potential pitfalls in the yoga practice — ways that, if we’re not careful, yoga can become a crutch for acting out in an eating disorder, rather than a tool for healing,” Roff said. The program also explores using yoga to tune into hunger and fullness signals, track emotions, and self-soothe.

As she travels to treatment centers, Roff will also gather data for a study on the effectiveness of yoga as a complementary treatment for people with eating disorders. She also plans to visit a local high school and university in each city to give a talk to students about eating disorder prevention.

Manduka Acquires Yogitoes

August 5, 2013

Skidless yoga towel

Manduka, a company known for its high-end yoga mats and props, announced last week that it will acquire Yogitoes, a California company that makes popular yoga towels.

The acquisition will give Manduka, which has an annual revenue of over $20 million, the rights to Yogitoes’ patented Skidless technology. Manduka plans to incorporate the technology into the design of future products.

“The Skidless towels people know and love are here to stay,” said Manduka CEO Sky Meltzer. “The Yogitoes name, line, and brand will continue to grow and thrive as part of the Manduka product family, specifically within our towel category.” Manduka will continue to make its current microfiber eQua towel line, which Meltzer says was designed to be more versatile since it can double as a performance towel for other fitness activities.

Yogitoes, based out of Santa Monica, is a natural fit for the Manduka brand, Meltzer said, because both companies are focused on innovation, sustainability, and community. Yogitoes products are made entirely from recycled materials, according to the company website.  Manduka was founded by yoga instructor and green architect Peter Sterios, and is committed to eco-friendly practices and sustainability in its products and production processes.

The financial details of the agreement are not public, but Manduka will now have more than 60 full-time employees.

Prepare Yourself For Becoming a Yoga Instructor

You want to pursue a career in yoga and are now thinking of taking training to be a yoga instructor. It's an important decision and can't be based on a passing whim. Instead of going for any course, you need to identify the right course for yourself. You can even decide to come to India to take the course. Although, yoga course are available in every nook and corner of India, Yoga teacher training in Dharamshala and Rishikeshis extremely popular. Many foreign tourists choose to come to a Yoga retreat in Goa as it gives them the triple benefit of great location (with its beaches, tropical climate and excellent teachers). Travel and the course demand significant time and money - making it imperative to decide well before taking up the course.

Below are 6 points to bear in mind when deciding to pursue a career in yoga

1. Have a real purpose for teaching yoga

You need to have a real reason for doing this course. If you are not convinced or are having second thoughts about your decision, then don't take the plunge.

2. Plan your money

Becoming a yoga teacher will need funds. You will need money to take care of the course fee and travel expenses. You will need to create funds for helping you sail through when you come back and work towards making a career in yoga. You also may not be able to join back at your original place of work as they may have hired a replacement due to your prolonged absence from work. The minimum requisite for teacher training, RYT 200 takes up a month or more to complete. Plan your financials so that you can cover up for loss of income from the time you start travel for your course.

3. Get support from family and friends

A career in yoga is not your everyday job. It's a big career move and you should have your friends and family in agreement with your decision as you will need their support to sail you through the tough times. Do remember that setting up yoga practice takes time; even if you decide to take up a job you will need time to find the job. Support from friends and family - emotionally, physically and financially - is really appreciated during those testing times.

4. Remember, it's not going to be easy

Yoga demands grit, determination and self-motivation. The asanas and the routine can be mentally and physically challenging in the beginning. You will also have to confront some shocking truths about your body. Be prepared for some shocks about your body. There may be times when others may be able to do something effortlessly and you may feel stuck. Be prepared to see yourself falter when others seem to do something with ease. Be prepared to see yourself falter when others seem to do something with ease. But the beauty of yoga is that it helps to reach the pinnacle slowly and at right time, when one is prepared both mentally and physically.

5. Don't start on a debt note

Pursuing yoga training by taking loans may not be a great idea as it may become a continuous stress factor for you, even during the course. And as you will need time and money to set up your yoga teaching practice, your debt may become a serious impediment there as well.

6. Be sure about your practice

It's not the students who learn yoga that become great teachers. It is taught by yoga lovers who dedicate themselves to yoga. If you need some daily ritual like a class to do your asanas, then teaching yoga is not for you. Great yoga teachers, don't just learn yoga they evolve with it and even bring out new shades of the practice by diving deeper or creating a confluence with other streams of knowledge likes Ayurveda. The feeling to keep evolving once practice is the key driver to becoming a great teacher.

Whether you do yoga teacher training in Goa or in Dharamshala or in any part of the world for that matter, it's imperative to pay heed to the above points before enrolling yourself for the course.

Yoga at Breweries Gaining Popularity

August 12, 2013

beerYoga and beer tasting workshops aren’t new. But what was once a small niche seems to be gaining popularity – with yoga classes at breweries from California to South Carolina and many places in between.

A beer brewery might seem like an unlikely place for a yoga class, but for some, that’s a part of the appeal. “The floors are concrete, and they’re usually a bit dirty. It’s loud from the glycol chiller,” said Beth Cosi, who teaches a class called Bendy Brewski at breweries around Charleston, SC. ”It’s garage band yoga. You’ve got to be OK with that.”

Cosi, who had worked in the restaurant business when she began teaching yoga said she noticed how much her coworkers needed the practice. But no matter how much she invited them to come to her studio classes, they never came. She realized they were intimidated by the yoga studio, so she started offering yoga classes at a local brewery to make the practice more accessible. Following the classes with a beer tasting was a no brainer. “There’s a kind of serenity after a good yoga class, and what followed was relaxing, slow conversation with no drama and no yoga hype,” Cosi said.

There are other advantages to practicing yoga where craft beer is brewed, too. From the smell of hops to the feeling of community, breweries offer a casual atmosphere that brings together students who might otherwise never practice yoga with seasoned practitioners who enjoy a good beer.

“Beer and yoga have a few things in common, but the most important is happiness,” said beer blogger and yoga teacher Adrienne Jenise, who teaches BrewAsanas in the Denver and Boulder, Colorado areas. ”Both are soothing, relaxing, and lead to a casual social environment.”

Will Bikram Yoga Survive?

bikram choudury

A quiet turmoil surrounds the Bikram Yoga community in the aftermath of several lawsuits filed this spring that accuse Bikram founder Bikram Choudhury of sexual harassment and rape. But while most of the discussion is taking place behind the scenes, there are a handful of teachers and studio owners who are publicly separating themselves from the Bikram name.

Stephanie Dixon,  owner of the former Bikram Yoga Summerlin in Las Vegas, recently changed the studio’s name to Summerlin Yoga and is in the process of phasing out Bikram classes from her class schedule.

“I don’t condone that type of behavior, and it’s not what I want to represent,” Dixon told Buzz, noting that such a change was a big risk for her business. Choudhury was accused of rape, sexual battery, false imprisonment, discrimination, harassment, and other counts in lawsuits filed against him in May. Two months earlier, former Bikram student Sarah Baughn, filed a similar lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and sexual assault. All three lawsuits were filed in Superior Court in Los Angeles.

After making the programming change in response to the Baughn lawsuit, Dixon noticed a drop in studio attendance, but says it’s climbing again because a wider variety of classes is pulling in a more diverse group of students.

The fear of losing their livelihood could be at the heart of why few studio owners or other members of the Bikram community have chosen to come forward to talk about the allegations publicly, Dixon said, noting that several Bikram studio owners across the country have contacted her and asked for advice about transitioning away from Bikram Yoga.

Mark Balfe-Taylor, a former Bikram teacher who helped another Las Vegas studio, Bikram Yoga Southwest, transition out of the Bikram tradition in 2008, is helping Dixon revamp her business model. “If you’ve invested in a Bikram studio, you’re trained in one style, in one methodology, and therefore [if you want to leave the Bikram tradition], all of your teachers are left jobless, not able to work elsewhere, and are in a situation where they have to get other training,” Balfe-Taylor said. “It’s not a cheap investment, so these people are left high and dry.”

Bikram teacher trainings range from $11,000-$15,000 according to BikramYoga.com, and Bikram studio owners must pay an initial franchising fee, then ongoing royalty fees, technology fees, and other fees.

Balfe-Taylor sees this tide change as an opportunity. He developed Revitalize, an alternative sequence to Bikram’s 26 poses, and he’s also working on a teacher training program geared toward Bikram teachers and studio owners who want to distance themselves from Bikram. “I just want to let people know there’s another option,” he said. Balf-Taylor also said he hopes that by offering more than one style of yoga at former Bikram studios, it will begin to bridge a gap between hot yoga and traditional yoga communities.

Balfe-Taylor isn’t the only one offering an alternative to the Bikram style. Pernille Tjelum, the director of be Hot Yoga in Edmonton (formerly Bikram Yoga Edmonton) recently broke ties with Bikram as well. She also developed a sequence, called Core 32, which she says studios are free to use. She hopes to license the be Hot Yoga brand to other studios that want to transition away from Bikram. Of course, there have been many teachers to leave the Bikram tradition through the years. Former Bikram teacher Tony Sanchez developed an alternative to Bikram Yoga when he parted ways with Choudhury in 1983, though the sequence Sanchez teaches is derived from the same Ghosh lineage as the Bikram sequence minus the external heat. Sanchez began training teachers in 2012.

Meanwhile, active discussions about the future of Bikram Yoga have been ongoing in private forums online, say several sources. Closed message boards for Bikram teachers are buzzing with discussions about how to move forward and what steps people can take to maintain the integrity of the practice, said Benjamin Lorr, the author of Hell-Bent: Obsession, Pain, and the Search for Something Like Transcendence in Competitive Yoga, a book released last year that some have credited for opening up the dialogue on sexual harassment in the Bikram community.

The focus on the yoga instead of the allegations is an indication that, despite his attempts to own the rights to his sequence and the Bikram name, Choudhury might not be a significant part of the practice in the eyes of many students and teachers. “I think in many ways this response is a testament to the fact that many in the Bikram community never looked to Bikram Choudhury as spiritual leader and don’t see him as an essential part of the practice,” Lorr said.

David Kiser, owner of Bikram Yoga Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, agrees. “The yoga goes way beyond the man, and the practice is pure and simple,” Kiser said. “Nothing Bikram the man does can change that.”

But Kiser also feels that those teachers distancing themselves from Bikram Yoga due to the allegations are jumping the gun. Most people in the Bikram community are assuming innocence until proven guilty, he said.

They might have a long wait. According to court documents, the next hearing for one of the lawsuits filed in May is scheduled for October 23, 2014.

At Bikram headquarters in Los Angeles, it seems to be business as usual with classes, teacher trainings, and studio licensing continuing as scheduled. The organization did not respond to multiple requests for comment, but a statement posted to BikramYoga.com in March said the accusations are false.

Encinitas School District Expands Yoga Program

August 2, 2013

Yoga at Encinitas Unified School District Photo credit: Hayne Palmour IV for U-T San Diego

Encinitas Union School District trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to accept an additional $1.4 million grant that will expand its controversial yoga program.

The grant will pay to increase the number of yoga teachers from 10 to 18 and to write a curriculum. It will come from the same group that initially funded the program; the Sonima Foundation, which changed its name from Jois Foundation earlier this year, initially invested $533,000.

The EUSD yoga program, which is offered to all children in the district, was the subject of a recent lawsuit brought against the school district by concerned parents who claimed the program was religious and should not be allowed in public schools. On July 1, a judge sided with the school district, allowing the yoga program to continue.

Of course, not everybody is happy with the plan to expand the yoga program. Dean Broyles, the attorney who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the parents and president of the National Center for Law and Policy, commented on the decision reported UT San Diego.

“We are a nation of laws, not men,” Broyles wrote in an email to the paper. ”EUSD’s decision to double down on its flagrant religious freedom violations is an outrageous breach of public trust. Apparently the money served as much too powerful an intoxicant for the trustees to handle and far too easily purchased continuing egregious First Amendment violations.”

Broyles has said he plans to appeal the July ruling.

On Yoga, Celebrities, and Radical Self-Acceptance

yogalosophyMandy Ingber, who is becoming a household name in yoga circles thanks to her celebrity clientele and her new best-selling book Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-body Makeover, may have come from the world of show business and glamour, but her path to a healthy body was hard won through her own search for self-acceptance.

Growing up in Los Angeles, and as a television and theater actress, Ingber struggled with her weight, developing eating disorders and struggling with self-confidence. She became a fitness instructor but realized that blending in yoga, which she learned growing up, was a better means to achieving the mental, emotional, and physical balance she craved.

Her hybrid path to health and self-acceptance has since become popular with celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Kate Beckinsale, and Helen Hunt, and includes everything from dietary advice and recipes to playlists and journal questions.

We talked to her to learn more about her practice, her book, and her passion for sharing yoga with others.

What first drew you to yoga?
I was introduced to yoga by my father in the early ’70s. I grew up in LA, and my father was very cutting edge. He began practicing Iyengar Yoga from the Light On Yoga book, and was a teacher by example. In trying to get some air time with my dad, my brother and I would try to contort [ourselves] into the more advanced poses. Yoga has always been a part of my life. It’s like my amniotic fluid.

What is Yogalosophy?
It’s my fitness philosophy, which is based on a “love your body and self completely” mentality. It includes intention setting, self-acceptance, and self-observation, and teaches people to be present and accept what they have, while striving to improve at the same time. The practice part of it is a hybrid routine of yoga and fitness, pairing traditional yoga poses with basic toning exercises.

What influenced you to create this practice (and to write this book)?
Although I was raised with awareness around health, I found that the pressure to stay healthy could also be very stifling. After struggling with body image, perfectionism, and eating disorders for years, I became a spinning instructor. When I began teaching, I was far from the model of perfection, but I became the voice of loving myself into shape. I came to realize that while my energy was too intense when I only directed it toward myself, it could effectively power an entire room filled with people! I started to create a hybrid routine of yoga and fitness that included positive messaging, and to teach it to my students in L.A., many of whom were celebrities. After Jennifer Aniston and I did a spread in SELF magazine together, I started to share some of that routine with the public and created the Yogalosophy DVD. The book is an extension of that DVD.

What’s it like teaching to celebrities and what drew you to that population?
Celebrities are just like you and me in terms of self-care. We each are in a body and have certain limitations and challenges. We all have this amazing gift that needs daily care and requires a certain level of commitment and attention. Each of us makes decisions each day about how we treat our bodies. Celebrities are really no different on that level. As far as why celebrities have been drawn to me: I am a former actress, so celebrity has always been a part of my life.

In one part of the book, you tell readers that it’s OK to watch TV while doing yoga or drink a glass of wine afterward. Not all yoga teachers offer this kind of advice. Can you talk about why you suggest making these allowances in your practice?
If we become too strict with our regimen or place too many rules around the conditions for our practice, we run the risk of paralyzing ourselves from action altogether. Additionally, it is important that we not set such unrealistic expectations of ourselves, so as to set ourselves up for failure. By allowing yourself to watch television during your practice, you create more opportunity to engage in your work on the yoga mat, which is beneficial. Similarly, it’s important to understand that bringing yoga into your life does not mean renouncing certain sources of enjoyment, like a glass of wine. Let’s say you have plans to grab drinks with friends later in the evening—don’t give them up. While a diet comprised of healthy, whole foods is an essential part of the Yogalosophy, it’s important to keep living your life. In a pinch, I have some go-to snacks like mixed nuts, almond/coconut water or KIND bars, because they are made from real, all-natural ingredients that keep things as close to nature as possible.

In your book, you talk about your father’s death, and what it taught you about the temporary nature of the body. How can contemplation on death teach us to make the most of our bodies right now?
It prevents us from taking the miracle of the body for granted. The impermanence of life is what makes it so beautiful. Each moment is so rare. Being present in it is really all we have. I have loved each moment. Even my struggles have made sense. I am not sure if we can ever truly grasp how much love there is all around us all of the time. That was one thing my father was saying a lot in his last six weeks. I could see it in him as well. I don’t want to wait to feel that love. I want to live heaven on earth.

Many Christians see yoga as an obstruction to Christianity. I see it as an enhancement. Like meditation, Christ-centered yoga acts as a chasm or tunnel that ushers me into the deeper chambers (the presence) of God.

Yoga Therapy Training

Many students who successfully complete their yoga classes aspire to become a professionally trained Yoga instructor. Even some teachers are motivated by their own experiences to deepen their skills at Yoga training. Since yoga has now become an emerging alternative for healing many people are gaining the knowledge as research continues to highlight its health benefits. Though the history of Yoga dates back to ancient times its health benefits are just being known widely now.

If you are a student or a trainer and you are thinking to expand your knowledge in the health benefits they provide, it can be confusing to decide which type of therapy certification should be followed. You should always keep in mind that you should look out for programs which might be the best fit for your interests, temperament, and background. Here are a few guidelines that you might consider while deciding on a Yoga training certification.

Firstly you should know that yoga is divided into two categories: Generalized and specialized. Generalized therapy trainings seek to give a broad therapy certification, enabling yoga therapists to apply thistherapy to a wide range of specific conditions. Specialized forms of certification focus on training yoga teachers to deal with one specific condition, such as yoga for depression, for mental strength, or for back pain.

Each form of training, whether generalized and specialized, has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of generalized programs is that therapists in training get a very broad foundation of knowledge and tools to draw on in working with a wide range of different health issues. The disadvantage of generalized programs can be that the 500 to 1000 hrs. Training they offer may not be enough to give students the prerequisites for working with clients with serious health conditions-it depends on which knowledge and skills the yoga therapist in training already brings to the program.

If you live in a large city where there are different types of therapists available, consider getting a session with several practicing people, so you can get a feel for how each particular approach to yoga therapy suits your temperament and natural skill set.

In addition, when researching for therapy courses, reflect on your personal experience and educational background. You want to pick a Therapy training program that will be aligned with your interests and strengths, and also one which supports your further professional training and teaching practice. Ultimately, the choice of whether to take specialized or generalized therapy training will depend on each person's interests, previous back grounds, and long-term goals. For starters, study the different therapy training programs featured on this website to get an overview of which certification programs are available and what they offer.

What Are The Benefits of Yoga For Women?

Unlike other forms of exercise which have become just the latest hot trend in the fitness industry, Yogacara seems to be here to stay. It's been regularly practiced not just by Americans but by people from all over the world for over 5,000 years now. In the United States alone, there are 11 million yoga practitioners.

If you are using it as a way to lose weight, you are definitely on the right track. But for women, there is definitely more to yoga than its being a way to reach one's fitness goals. It has mind-pacifying and other health benefits, so it's definitely something that you should consider trying if you haven't already done so.

Yoga: The Basics

Yoga is something that you should never practice by yourself. Enrol in classes with trained individuals who can do yoga poses even in their sleep. You'll never know when you might overstrain or overstretch your neck, shoulders, spine, legs and knees while attempting to do a yoga pose, so it does help to be under the supervision of a trained instructor.

In the US, yoga classes typically focus on physical poses which are also called asanas. Combined with breathing and meditation techniques, these asanas are done to provide utmost relaxation to an individual. But there are plenty of other yoga poses which can be done to achieve different levels of health and mind benefits.

Aside from traditional yoga, there are other types of yoga which one can practice including power and ashtanga yoga. These are more vigorous than the other styles of yoga, and the goal is to help improve muscle tone. When you perform the plank, upward or downward dog pose, your upper body strength will be developed. If you would like to develop your abdominal muscles, the chair and the upward dog poses are ideal.

Counting Down the Benefits of Yoga for Women

Now that you already have a basic idea about the basics of yogacara, let us take a look at its other benefits:

Yoga helps improve your posture as your core muscles get strengthened.Women become more aware of their bodies as they practice yogacara.Practicing yogacara helps improve the quality of one's sleep because the poses focus on deep breathing techniques. It also provides additional health benefits like improved heart rate and lowered blood pressure. There are some types of Yogacara which help alleviate symptoms of painful chronic conditions like back pain, arthritis and even carpal tunnel syndrome.Yogacara may seem like a not-so-tedious type of activity but it can actually help improve your fitness as the poses get your heart pumping.Yogacara helps develop stronger bones and boost muscle strength.

With all these benefits and more, there's really no reason why women should not consider practicing yogacara.

Pregnancy Yoga For Busy Mums

Yoga can help ease pregnancy aches and emotional worries as well as prepare for the labour and any recovery after the birth of your baby. Yoga is an ideal lifestyle choice during pregnancy, at a time when you become so much more aware of your body, your emotions, your surroundings and nutrition as well as becoming naturally more flexible. There are also plenty of yoga techniques you can include in your everyday routine!

Yoga Elder Vikki believes that if you only have a few minutes to devote to yoga in pregnancy then spending some time breathing is most beneficial.

Slowing your breathing to an even pace whilst increasing the depth of each breath acts as a natural tranquilliser whilst increasing your lung capacity will help to relieve fatigue and hypertension. When people are fearful or panicky their breathing becomes shallow and ineffective whilst long slow breathing can release tension and help reduce stress and anxiety.

Sit comfortably cross legged on the floor, in tailor pose or upright in a chair with both feet flat on the floor. Make sure your spine is straight and your head is in line with your neck and back. Relax the muscles in your face, your neck and shoulders.

Concentrate on your navel and inhale deeply through your nose taking your arms up slowly around your body as your breath moves to fill your lungs. Continue to inhale, lifting your arms up until your fingertips meet. Clasp your fingertips together, palms towards the ceiling and look upwards towards your fingers. Release your arms and exhale, bringing your hands back to your knees. Repeat 5 or 10 times.

Keep the movements and your breathing smooth and steady.

You can do this one at your desk if you're still at work!

Squatting - or 'garland' pose

This is a real mainstay of pregnancy yoga, opening up your pelvis and hip joints and stretching your perineum. In the last few weeks of your pregnancy it will encourage your baby's head to engage in preparation for birth. You may not have squatted since you were a toddler but all children adopt this pose naturally when they first learn to walk! It's also a comfortable birthing position offering the ideal angle for the baby's descent and making use of gravity to help the process.

If you can't manage a full squat, practise by squatting on a low stool or yoga blocks.

Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart, keep them flat on the floor and simply lower yourself into a squat - resting your buttocks on the yoga blocks if it's more comfortable.

You may prefer to keep a block, or a rolled yoga mat under your heels - or hold onto something (or someone) secure.

Squatting will lengthen and relax the muscles in your back, buttocks and pelvic floor improving the blood flow to the whole pelvic area whilst at the same time relaxing and stretching the perineal tissues - all excellent preparation for labour.

Try dropping into a squat instead of bending over when you go to pick something up so it becomes easier and more comfortable and natural to maintain the pose.

Information About Yoga!

Every one desires good health and it is the ultimate objective for utmost happiness in life. With continuous, systematic and regular practice of yoga one can maintain good health and also eliminate all the dreadful diseases. Before knowing what yoga is, it is important to be aware that yogic practice not only gives positive heath but also develops concentration and strengthens the immune system.

What is Yoga? The answer is very wide; it is both physical and mental. The term is derived from the word yui which means to join or yoke. This is a systematic and methodical process to control and develop the mind and body to attain good health, balance of mind and self realization.

Sage pathanjali, the great master of Yoga Darshana formulated the eight- fold path or eight limbs that form the structural framework for this practice which are-:

Yama(moral conduct): One must establish non violence, on stealing, truthfulness, celibacy, non covetousness to overcome basic desire; they form the moral virtues which if attended to purify human natureNimaya (personal discipline) has five elements: purity, contentment, austerity, self study and devotion to the lord. Niyamas are more intimate and personal and refer to the attitude we adopt toward ourselves so as to create a code for living soulfullyAsanas: is the practice of right postureBesides asansas there are kriyas, practices for purifying the internal and external organs by removing the toxins in them. For this purpose one must practice pranayam which is cessation of the flow of inhalation and exhalation. Prana is the life force of existence, the art of breathing more systematically.Prathyahara refers to dissociation and relates to restoration of senses to attain purity of mind.Dharana refers to fitness of mind through abstraction. It involves holding the mind to one thought or objectDhyana(meditation) involves control over sense of perception which forms the seventh limb of yoga and involves uninterrupted flow of concentrationIn Samadhi man goes above and beyond the earthly existence, sheds the consciousness of the body and all the other objects of this material world. Samadhi, man can stand utterly liberated from the limitation of time and space and enjoy eternal bliss.

In short yoga is a ladder of eight steps up which the man can climb above pain and suffering of the material world. Starting from yama it leads to Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharna, Dhyana and finally Samadhi. All the above eight yogic concepts provide for cleaning the body and mind to attain perfection.

Learn To Do The Right Thing At The Right Time

Here on earth we have lost direct conscious contact to all - to our spiritual family, our spiritual relatives, to our spiritual children, to our spiritual parents, as well as to God and the remainder of entire creation.

Part of mankind on earth however is reaching out for God. Here and now. May be you as well? There heart is opening and they would like to become again a part of the divine family in God.

This opening and search for God is recognized by God and all his family members who still remain in conscious contact and are fully aware of God and entire creation and its need.

If you reach out for God, then you want become part of all family again. This however means that you have to learn to become an ACTIVE part again. You need help - plenty of help - to find out of your present situation. Here we are talking only about spiritual help. To be open for spiritual help however you need to be free and receptive for any kind of help you need. This opening for help you need is obtained by you helping others first! to be able to do so, you need meaningful and useful opportunities to help others who are in real need. you need to regain the sensitivity for the need for help of others. You need an open heart full of love for others as well as the readiness to instantly help others in need of any kind of help. Such readiness to help and sensitivity for the need of help at first needs to be trained again. Your ego has for a long time - in most cases for ten thousands of years up to million of years refused to cooperate with others for the mutual benefit of all creation. Hence all your brain, nervous system, all your automatic reactions are based on this past time of separation from God and all creation.

You all have been given repeated times opportunities to reconnect yourself into the chain of useful actions of love. All are given again and again opportunities to help. most however fail to recognize such hands that are reaching out for you to return home.

Please realize that every opportunity to help anyone is your chance of being allowed to reenter the group of loving family members and to receive help on your part for your return home.

Returning home to our eternal home in God never is possible as a single individual - but only as a loving child of God open for ALL - in love. Open for all love to be given to anyone needing love as well as open for all love offered to you by millions or more of loving family members in God waiting for you to accept any help.

From your study of the "Spiritual Treasures", you should by now understand that all is energy that needs to flow. An individual in a certain way acts like a container. If you want something new, you first need to empty your container of something old. You need to make place for your God-given divinity and divine help, for love and spiritual support. One very efficient way is helping others in all possibly needed ways.

How are opportunities to help offered to you?

You very surely remember many times that you had the idea or feeling you should

Call someone who who thought might be in troubleCall someone who might need someone to talk toOffer someone some kind of material or financial help because you felt that person might need itOffer someone your direct professional help or advice because you realized that a person or family had a problem that YOU could solve with your acquired expertise that you had something in your property that YOU may never need again but someone else known to you may need at this very moment

Such sudden appearing ideas are given to you from a spiritual level. On a highly evolved spiritual level hundreds of spiritual beings are nearly full time busy helping you and many others. If a needed help is realized, then the search for the fastest and most efficient possible helper is started. All children of God potentially willing to help or needing to help in order top receive themselves help, are then found and an offer to help is made by such ideas.

Some times the person in need is contacting directly on a spiritual level all possible helpers among his spiritual family members or other possible sources of help.

All of you have had such ideas that someone you know, like

your physical childrensome relativesyour parentsyour partnerfriendsemployeesspiritual disciples if ever you have been a spiritual teachersomeone you may have heard directly from an other persons talking about his/her emergency or from news reports on TV, radio, Internet, etc. ...

You may have had the feeling or idea that you could and should help or at offer your full help and support to any such person or situations that have been brought to your attention.

Most of the time however you may have been too busy with your daily routines. Went to work, or to an appointment of zero spiritual value and minutes or hours later the idea or feeling to need to help was gone.

Why was that feeling to help gone?

The very second, the very moment you perceive that someone may need help - your help, that very second that person needs instant help. Instant means within seconds, the most efficient way, the fastest possible way. at any price and completely free of any thoughts about possible most economic ways to help.

Love is priceless. True love has no value because no physical or material goods of any kind ever can pay for true divine love. The value of true love never can be measured by any physical or mathematical means. its value is infinite. you will recognize that infinite value the day YOU need help and help is nothing else but realized love in a certain way depending on the details of the actual situation asking for help.

You are given a chance to enter a divine family again by being offered an opportunity to help. you are offered an opportunity to spiritually practice love and any lesson that you might need to learn and practice in order to rejoin your divine home in God again. Your possible benefit if accepting the challenge to help is far beyond the limited help you ever can offer - even if you offer ALL you have on earth - your spiritual benefit is infinitely much greater than whatever value you could physically give away. Your physical love is asked for - and in return you may receive infinite bliss and true spiritual love from your spiritual family waiting to help you on your path of love to God. Ready to help you to get out of the cycle of reincarnation, out of the dilemma of karma and attachment, out of war and revenge. out of retaliation and punishment.

The help however is needed within a particular time-frame. sometimes this time-frame might be but a few seconds or minutes. Hence in such cases absolute instant help and acting is required by whoever is willing to do so. If you wait or think for a few seconds too long, then someone else is accepting the offer you just dropped in your intellectual selfishness and someone else will receive and enjoy the additional push and spiritual benefit such an action of help always contains.

Sometimes the time frame might be up to a few hours or days but seldom even more. depending on the particular situation.

If no one of those having received the offer to help is helping, then there are always "professional" helpers doing what others fail to do. there are things spiritually too important to be left at the mercy of ego. There are persons having zero karma and being entitled to the fullest possible support at any time, because they have committed themselves to the full-time support of God's entire creation on earth and beyond. persons even here on earth helping you all the time - in your office, at your working place, in your company, in your business, in your neighborhood, ... like guardian angels of love - working in the name of God for your physical and spiritual benefit, day after day for millions of years. and most of them you have never recognized as being your physical guardian angels on earth in your world of matter and ego.

Many of you who finally accept the offer to being allowed to help waste their valuable opportunity by searching for cheapest ways to help, searching for most convenient ways to help, searching for easiest ways to help, and by the time the help finally is given, it either may be too late and this being too late may have considered substantial additional and absolutely obsolete suffering of any kind. Or the help simply arrives too late because someone else has given timely help to prevent any obsolete suffering. You may even fail to realize that your help has arrived too late because you might have been so satisfied or proud of having helped that you miss to realize the full content of such situations. Many such helper-beginners even delay their help to create at first greater suffering and greater emergency to create or expect greater gratitude from the one receiving help. remember that you - the potential helper - is the one and only who truly is benefiting from giving help to others. The ones receiving or needing help often are playing their divine role given by God to them or a role the consciously accepted to give you a chance to return home - back to your loving family in God. many have accepted such roles because they truly care about YOU and because they always truly loved you and want you back - back in God, because they want you to be really happy and enjoy life again the way God ever has planned it to be.

Please learn to sharpen your awareness for any situation where you get the feeling or idea that YOU may be able to help, or that a particular person is needing a particular help. You are the one to help, because you are the one to have received the opportunity. An opportunity to reconnect again back into the flow of love and bliss as enjoyed by the majority of mankind beyond this planet - back in their / our all - divine and eternal home in God.

Learn to always give such help the very most efficient and fastest possible way. Learn to use to most sophisticated high tech assistance offered. Learn to use ALL means that are available at present time, learn to put ALL your efforts into obtaining the best possible and most powerful possible solution of love. Make every such opportunities the only and first priority in your life.Usually it may take but a few minutes, hours and seldom more than a day or two. Keep in mind that one day you may need such instant and most efficient assistance in many different situations on your path of love to God. Because there are TWO things each and all of you may have to relearn again.

Giving instant and efficient loving help and assistance in the FULL extent needed by the potential recipientsAccepting all loving help to the full extent offered by those loving you

Hence you may need to learn to give love by helping others and or you may need to learn to receive love by others helping you.

Both is of equal importance for ALL of us.

As a potential receiver for help you may have to learn that when you call or e-mail or pray for help one day. The help you may expect to arrive someday in the future may already be waiting for you and be available instantly or within seconds or minutes. Because out there in this world are people who care about YOU and who are open for your needs and are waiting for your call for help to give you instant solutions, instant help. Often solutions of love are already waiting for you because you have failed to call and thus open for help when you actually first become aware of your need for help. In the meantime however others became aware for your need and were waiting for you to contact them - just to accept the help from them they were waiting to give you without even "knowing you in person". They had help waiting to be delivered and were waiting for the recipients address - for your call for help - a call by the single most efficient method available at any time in any situation. Such calls for help always include a sincere prayer and self assessment of the own actual situation and the need and readiness to accept help.

May all help ever be given to you instantly and may you all ever become instantly aware of any help you may be able to offer to others. Making happy is far greater joy and receiving "thank you".

Never create gratitude - only create happiness.

What else could be of greater value and reward to you than to know and feel and see another happy and smiling face among mankind or creation at all! All Happiness that you create or co-create will become part of the source of all love and bliss that flows through you for the remainder of eternity.

The regular practice of Kriya Yoga will open you for God's guidance and increase your sensitivity to feel or to know the need of others as well as to intuitively be at the right time at the right spot to meed the right people - who may need your help or may have a solution for your own problems.

The Philosophy Behind a Cotton Yoga Mat

If yogis are supposed to be tree-hugging and earth-loving types...trying to make the world a better place - one downward-dog at a time; why do the majority of Western yoga practitioners use 'sticky' mats made of harmful PVC-containing plastics? Not only are sticky mats bad for yogis and the environment, but they interfering with the purity of a harmonious yoga practice. Perhaps the invention of the plastic/rubber yoga mat happened out of convenience or maybe out of ignorance. Sticky mats do work well for keeping the student stable during poses and they also prevent slipping on the slick floors of yoga studios. Nonetheless, there is more to yoga than contorting the body into unnatural and often uncomfortable postures for ninety sweaty minutes.

Why do the poses in the first place? What's the ultimate goal? Most people practice yoga because they want to connect with that vibrant source of energy that's alive and deep within their tired, busy souls. To be with that sense of "oneness" that connects us with the rest of the universe. Instead of enhancing our yoga practice, the use of a synthetic rubber mat actually blocks the yogi from achieving that subtle connection with the earth's energy.

Yet, there is a way around this unforeseeable obstacle. Using a mat made of natural materials-such as cotton yoga mat or wool blanket-provides an eco-friendly source of support for the student and allows the subtle energies to flow during the asanas. The benefits of using a natural yoga mat are far more advantageous than the convenience of a cold, synthetic slab of plastic.

The Bhagavad Gita, one the oldest and most sacred yogic texts, states the importance of using natural materials during the practice of yoga. Chapter VI verse 11 (translated) states: "The yogi's seat, in a clean place, should be firm (not wobbly), neither too high not too low and covered first, with kusha grass, then with deer or tiger skin, then with a cloth."

Okay, we're not suggesting one needs to slay a wild animal and practice headstands on the carcass, but the Bhagavad Gita does make a point. Kusha grass was once used as insulation against the damp earth. These days we have nice, dry yoga studios. The use of natural materials, however, is still important. Think of your "foundation" and what it is built upon. The stronger and more grounded your connection to the earth, the better the results achieved in your practice. Four thousand years ago, the first yogis in India were performing miracles based on the strength of their yoga practices. So much of that powerful yogic energy has been lost in the West, overtaken by form-flattering yoga clothes and celebrity "beach bods". It's time to step back, take a deep breath and remember the founding fathers of yoga, the masters who wrote the Bhagavad Gita in 3000 BCE. The use of natural materials represents yoga at its origins.

In meditation, the importance of a cotton or wool shawl is to insulate the body against the pull of the earth currents. Yoga is a prelude to meditation, during which the mind tries to withdraw the energy of the life force from the senses to the soul. It's really all about the mind, but the use natural materials to insulate the body, helps to reverse the downward and outward pull of the earth's currents and increases the inward and upward draw of the life force. By using a cotton mat or wool rug, you may achieve more satisfying results in the practice of the asanas.

For the same reason we remove our shoes and socks before yoga, we should look to remove obstacles that keep us from balancing and grounding to the earth. A sticky mat provides no connection to the earth; instead it blocks the subtle energies produced by the poses. A cotton yoga mat can aid in deepening your practice-try one and judge for yourself.

What is Yoga? by Yoga Retreats

Yoga is many things to many people and usually depends on their knowledge of the subject and their reason for interest or practising yoga. The word 'yoga' comes from the Sanksrit root 'yuj' which means union. (Sanskrit is an ancient Indian language). Essentially yoga is an ancient philosophy which emerged out of different philosophies in India between 2,500 and 5,000 years ago or even longer. Many people practice Yoga at dedicated yoga retreats.

The original philosophies talked in depth about humility. They also talked about letting go of ego, attachments, anger and anything else that separates you from other people and the world around you. This humility allows you to connect to the world around you and to form yoga or 'union' with the world around you. The idea was the whole world is connected and to tap into the feeling of union.

The main practice of the yoga of ancient times was understanding philosophy, overcoming attachment and acting through righteousness. This was done in order to elevate one's actions or karmas as the belief was that by performing good karmas or actions one would lead a happy life that would eventually lead to enlightenment.

Yoga also involved meditation and contemplation on the inner self at home, work or at a yoga retreat. The ancient philosophies taught us that the nature of a human being was originally one of peace and that yoga and meditation practice brings one back to a state of realisation where one connects back to one's own sense of peace.

The history of this period of time depicts yogis in seated postures such as padmasana (lotus posture) performing meditation.

As time went by, however, and people's lives began to become more stressful, there was less awareness of the original sense of peace that we all have in our minds and this began to be interpreted into the body. There dawned awareness that the mind and the body are linked and that if the mind was stressed then so would be the body and there also dawned an awareness that if the body could be relaxed then so too could be the body. Many people find it useful to travel to yoga retreats in Spain away from life's stress.

This change in practice happened relatively recently, around 800 years ago, and formed the foundations of what is regarded today as yoga practice. The theory was that a tense mind makes the muscles within the body tense and by relaxing the muscles in the body by stretching them one could make the mind relaxed too bringing it back closer to its natural state of peace. This then formed the basis for the physical practice of yoga we now know and is practiced across the world at home, work, indoors, outdoors and at yoga retreats. Many people travel visiting yoga retreats in Spain for example.

Of course this is simplified version of the theory of the physical practice of yoga. The reality is that there is a lot of depth to the theory of the practice of yoga postures and that one requires many years to understand it. Yogis at the time when postures were being developed experimented with different positions and noted their effect on the mind. They noted that forward bending postures, whilst helping with flexibilty also helped with developing 'pratyahara' or introversion. They noted that backbending postures help give energy to the body and also help open up the heart and emotions. They also noted physical benefits of postures. Twisting postures help provide oxygenated blood to the gastro-intestinal system and also to the pancreas so helping with the prevention of diabetes. They noticed that postures such as sarvanghasana or shoulder stand help provide oxygenated blood to the thyroid gland and so help with thyroid disorders and metabolic disease. They also noted positive effects on blood pressure as flexibility improves and aids blood circulation. They also noted that practicing yoga on a regular basis improved results and visiting dedicated yoga retreats helped to focus their bodies and minds.

Thus yoga has two paths that are spoken of - one is of good mental health, that is finding a state of relaxation within the mind, a state of peace and to those who want to follow it, a state of enlightenment. The other path is the path of health. This has also come to mean and involves following a healthy diet and is a reason that many yogis currently eat healthily and offer yoga courses at yoga retreats in Spain. Many of the ancient scriptures talked of a 'sattvic' or pure diet which today can be talked of as a healthy diet. It is a diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and ideally a vegetarian one where the idea of 'ahimsa' or non-violence is followed again to create good karmas and a peaceful internal and external environment.

Yoga Helps Incarcerated

man in anjali mudraOne of the greatest benefits of yoga practice is that it trains us to stay calm when emotions and physical sensations get intense. This type of training not only allows our negative emotions to pass more quickly, but it encourages us not to impulsively act out from a place of anger, fear, or hostility. So, could this aspect of yoga practice be helpful to those who are incarcerated? A new study says yes.

In a recent 10-week study funded by the Prison Phoenix Trust, an Oxford, England, based charity that offers yoga classes in prisons, psychologists assessed the benefits of yoga for prisoners. Study leaders Dr. Amy Bilderbeck and Dr. Miguel Farias, who are Oxford University researchers in the Department of Experimental Psychology and Psychiatry, found that prisoners who took one 90-minute yoga class each week improved in mood, had a decrease in stress, and were able to curb impulsivity. This last finding indicates that yoga may not only be a way of helping inmates deal with the stress of incarceration, but that offenders may have a better shot of resisting the temptation to commit crime again once they are back out in the world.

“Almost half of adult prisoners return to prison within a year, having created more victims of crime,” Sam Settle, director of the Prison Phoenix Trust, says in an article posted on the India Educational Diary website. “So finding ways to offset the damaging effects of prison life is essential for us as a society. This research confirms what prisoners have been consistently telling the Prison Phoenix Trust for 25 years: yoga and meditation help them feel better, make better decisions, and develop the capacity to think before acting–all essential in leading positive, crime-free lives once back in the community.”

Before and after the yoga course, all the prisoners completed questionnaires measuring mood, stress, impulsivity, and mental wellbeing. The results of the study were printed in the Journal of Psychiatric Research.

“We’re not saying that organizing a weekly yoga session in a prison is going to suddenly turn prisons into calm and serene places, stop all aggression and reduce reoffending rates,” said Bilderbeck, who is also a yoga practitioner. “But what we do see are indications that this relatively cheap, simple option might have multiple benefits for prisoners’ wellbeing and possibly aid in managing the burden of mental health problems in prisons.”

A New Conviction

Minimum Age Requirements for Maha Samadhi

There is no minimum age for Maha Samadhi and there is no rule for young ones that could prevent Maha Samadhi at any young age! The rules are the very same for youngest and for oldest = to love all and to practice complete kriya yoga with God and Love in mind and heart.

When youngest ones leave for God, then parents and sisters as well as many loved ones or friends usually review their own values in life as well as purpose of life on earth and may change heart and mind and entire lifestyle. Hence any death or Maha Samadhi of loved ones at youngest age may often benefit many others much better than getting old and older. A sudden death as well as conscious Maha Samadhi often is a most intense and most efficient "wake up call" for lost ones to reorient their life toward the spiritual goal of all human souls - to return home to God.

Each soul has a precise plan and purpose on earth. For most souls it is to learn to love, to forgive and reconcile with all.For some however it is to present a lesson of love to lost ones on earth.

Death always has the greatest impact on loved ones lost on a non-spiritual path, often far more powerful than thousands of spiritual talks and lessons of love.

All those among you who do for an extended period of time unlimited kriya yoga besides daily work, make sure you have pre-paid and prearranged your funeral as that might be the last part of a life that needs to be clarified and arranged by a human preparing for Maha Samadhi.

Whatever left behind when you fully surrender to God, then will become part of the needed spiritual lessons of all your lost ones among your friends and family members.

Do whatever you do but always do it to the greatest possible perfection. There is little to no room for errors or superficiality on your path of love home to God. God is Love and love is the key to God. Love in all your actions, work, business and other activities.

As the ultimate spiritual qualification for Maha Samadhi is to achieve the one major goal in life - to love all, to forgive all and to reconcile with all. Learning to love is the only purpose of life on earth. Any additional lessons can be learned at home in God's world of love in a far more loving and pleasant environment as part of our eternal life in God.
